Default The Tournament

The Tournament

Bosses in Sorrow’s Furnace are level 28, and usually have great combinations of skills, making them really strong, or almost invincible. I have been wondering which boss could be able to kill all the others, so I decided to make that tournament.

Six bosses will fight in the tournament, one of each profession. I chose those who spawn when you enter the furnace with Orozar Highstone, before Noble Intention, to represent their profession.

(If you know the bosses and what skill they use, you can skip this part)

Warrior - Tanzit Razorstone
- Eviscerate (Elite)
- Healing Signet
- Axe Twist
- Disrupting Chop

*Eviscerate and Axe Twist will make you suffer from Weakness and Deep Wound
*Healing Signet can be a problem, if you don’t have interrupts.
*You don’t want him to use Disrupting Chop against you, if he does while you are using a skill, this skill will take 20 more seconds to recharge.

Ranger - Drago Stoneherder
- Melandru’s Arrows (Elite)
- Savage Shot
- Tiger’s Fury
- Troll Unguent

*Melandru’s Arrows will make his arrows cause Bleeding.
*Savage shot only interrupts, not as bad as Disrupting Chop.
*Tiger’s Fury will make him shot faster.
*Troll Unguent can be a problem, if you don’t have interrupts.

Monk - Brohn Stoneherder
- Mend Ailment
- Orison of Healing
- Mark of Protection (Elite)
- Life Attunement
- Resurrect (we’ll ignore this one)

*Mend Ailment will cure him from a condition every 5 seconds or so, and heal him for remaining conditions.
*Orison of Healing alone is not much an issue, but combined with Life Attunement, it heals for more than 100 hp, every 2 seconds (?!?).
*He’ll trigger Mark of Protection if his health gets too low, and it can full his hp bar.

Necromancer - Villnar Painforge
- Vampiric Gaze
- Enfeeble
- Strip Enchantment
- Well of Suffering (we’ll ignore this one)

*From 100% to 50% hp, he’ll only wand you and use Enfeeble.
*When he’ll have 50% hp or less, he’ll spam Vampiric Gaze, stealing you a lot of health.
*He’ll use Strip Enchantment right when you’ll use an enchantment, then again later.

Elementalist - Galigord Stonestrike
- Obsidian Flame
- Stoning
- Earth Attunement
- Rust

*Rust makes your signets take 3 times as long to cast.
*He will not spam Obsidian Flame, since it exhausts him.
*He’ll spam Stoning. It’ll deal great damage, but it won’t knock you down, since he can’t make you suffer from weakness.

Mesmer – Vokur Grimshackles
- Crippling Anguish (Elite)
- Conjure Phantasm
- Shatter Enchantment

*Crippling Anguish will make you walk slower, and will give you 3 (or 4 ? )health degeneration.
*Conjure Phantasm will make you suffer 5 health degeneration.
*Shatter Enchantment will remove an enchantment, and will damage you.

The Matches

For the first 3 matches, we’ll try to make it as fair as possible. Example: Galigord could do nothing vs. Vokur, since he has nothing to heal himself. I think those matches are very fair:

Tanzit vs. Drago
Vokur vs. Brohn
Villnar vs. Galigord

The Battles

We can’t see any of these battles, so we’ll work in a specific way. I’ll list what can happen to each boss in each fight, and then compare to see who has more chances to win. If you think the matches are not fair, or if I make a boss win and he should lose, tell it, that’s why I am posting that thread.

Battle #1

Tanzit
-Will suffer from bleeding (3 degen)
-Will have Healing Signet interrupted (Not always)
-Has a very high armor

Drago
-Will suffer from Deep Wound (80% of his hp)
-Will suffer from Weakness (he’ll be weaker)
-Will have Troll Unguent interrupted (Always, with a good coordination)
-Has a high armor

Since Tanzit has a very good armor, and Drago will suffer from weakness, the only big damage Tanzit will suffer will come from the degeneration, from Bleeding.

On the other part, Drago will take almost all the damage Tanzit deals to him, and he will have less hp than usual. Even if Drago places some Troll Unguents without being interupted, Tanzit wins.

Battle #2

Brohn
-Will have 8 health degen (maybe 9)
-Will have Life Attunement striped (Not always)

Vokur
-Can’t heal himself

Brohn will already have Life attunement on, making his Orison of Healing heal for more than 100hp. Brohn will begin to wand Vokur, and Vokur’s health will drop at a slow rate since Life Attunement reduce the damage output. Vokur will use Shatter Enchantment, removing Life Attunement and dealing a fair amount of damage, then use Conjure Phantasm and Crippling Anguish on Brohn, giving him about 9 health degeneration. Brohn will recast Life Attunement, and then spend all his time spamming Orison of Healing, so he can’t wand Vokur.

Crippling Anguish will last about 10 seconds, since Brohn is a boss and hexes only lengths half the duration on bosses. So Brohn will always have 5 health degeneration, and half of the time 9. He will heal himself enough for the first 25 seconds, but then, Vokur would use his Shatter Enchantment, which will be recharged. Brohn’s Orison of Healing will not be able to keep him alive, so he’ll use Mark of Protection. Vokur’s damage relies on degeneration, so Brohn’s attempt will be mostly futile, healing Brohn only for the damage Vokur will deal him with his wand. Brohn may try to save himself by recasting Life Attunement, but it has a long casting time, and the degeneration and Vokur’s wand attacks would finish him before he can use another Orison of Healing.

Battle # 3

Galigord
-Will suffer from Weakness
-Can’t heal himself
-Will be exhausted

Villnar
-Will have Rust on him
-Can heal himself with Vampiric Gaze

This fight would be separated in 2 parts, before Villnar gets to 50% hp, and after.
When they’ll meet, Villnar will spam Enfeeble, but it won’t affect Galigord’s spells.
Galigord will use Rust on Villnar, but Villnar doesn’t use signets. Galigord will take some damage, because Villnar will wand him. Galigord will spam Stoning and use Obsidian Flame, and Villnar’s health will drop quite fast. When Villnar’s health will reach 50%, things will change. He’ll spam Vampiric Gaze, stealing Galigord’s health. Galigord can’t heal himself, and will already have lost lots of health from Villnar’s wand attacks. He will also have lost lots of energy and will be exhausted. Even if he deals lots of damage with Stoning and Obsidian Flame, Galigord would lose, mostly because of his lack of healing.

The Finals

Villnar, Vokur and Tanzit made it to the finals.

Tanzit would kill Vokur. Vokur can’t heal himself, and will suffer from Deep Wound and Weakness. The battle would not be very long, Tanzit would need to use Healing Signet, maybe more than once, but he would kill Vokur. (If you don’t believe that, go with a party in SF as a warrior, kill all of Tanzit’s friends and ask your team to go back while you fight Tanzit alone. At first, while he’s building adrenaline, you’ll lose only a little bit of health. When Eviscerate will be ready, he’ll make you cry; So imagine without Dolyak, without being a Warrior.)

Villnar would kill Vokur. When Villnar’s hp will drop under 50%, he’ll use Vampiric Gaze fairly often, eating Vokur’s hp little by little, while it’ll heal him.

Finally, Villnar vs Tanzit. Villnar can’t interrupt Tanzit’s Healing Signets, and Tanzit’s armor would prevent him from getting too much damage. Both will suffer from Weakness, so only Eviscerate and Axe Twist would deal significant amount of damage to Villnar. When Villnar’s health will reach 50%, he’ll use Vampiric Gaze, which could cause Tanzit’s failure
Tanzit only needs to place some Disrupting Chop at the right moment, to make Vampiric Gaze take an additional 20 seconds to recharge, and then kill Villnar.

The Winner Is…

The winner would be Tanzit, and Disrupting Chop was an important skill. Because of that, Grognard or Malinon (sword and hammer warriors) can’t be compared with him.
But let’s see if Tanzit really can kill all the other bosses:

-Drago, Tarnok and Graygore (Rangers) – Checked

-Villnar, Gordac and Bortak (Necros) – Checked

-Brohn, Gardock and Ivor (Monks) – not Cheked
I thought Tanzit could use Disrupting Chop on their
Orison of Healing, but I tried it more than once, and even
after being interrupted by Disrupting Chop, Brohn keeps
spamming Orison of Healing, like if he would have
more than one Orison of Healing in his skill bar. So they
can’t be killed by Tanzit alone.

-Vokur, Korvald and Garbock (Mesmers) – not Checked
Their cry of frustration (Korvald and Garbock) would own healing signet.

-Galigord, Runar and Rago (Elementalists) – not Checked
Only Obsidian Flame (which exhausts them) causes significant
damage to Tanzit. Since they can’t heal themselves, Tanzit would win.

-Grognard and Malinon (Warriors) – not Checked
Malinon’s Dwarven Battle Stance and Grognard’s Shield Bash
wouldn’t help them much. The fact Tanzit’s Disrupting Chop
makes their Healing signet take 24 seconds to recharge, and his
Weakness + Deep Wound combination makes him the winner.

Tanzit could kill 12 of the 17 other bosses in Sorrow’s Furnace, although, he uses only 4 skills.

Conclusion

To conclude, I have to say I wrote that text like 6 months ago. I found it recently and I thought it was a waste of time of just throwing it in the recycle bin. When I first wrote it, I was curious of knowing if it was possible for a level 20 with 8 skills to kill all of the bosses in Sorrow’s Furnace. I wanted to post that thread so you guys could help me. Killing one Boss is not that hard, since you can focus your 8 skills on killing him. But having a build able to kill them all is another game. The build has to ignore the context. Exemple: You come has a Necro with 18 points in Blood magic and 1000 energy. You spam Vampiric Touch, healing yourself and killing anything in 1 vs 1 fight, whatever they do. The fact is that you can’t spam Vampiric Touch, the 15 energy cost makes it impossible.

I thought of a lot of things and I came up lately with a W/mo build that could kill all the bosses, except the Mesmers. I am working on a R/n touch ranger build that could maybe kill all of them, but I think it may be hard to kill monks with it. Anyways, this is only for fun since the best you can do with a build like this is to say to your 5 man or 8 man team: “Go back please, I will solo him!”

Right after I typed the paragraph above, I thought of pairing with a W/R or a W/N who can solo Grenth’s + Sorrow’s. After he killed everything except bosses, I could take care of them. As partners, we could split drops depending on who worked harder, or 50/50 loll. I don’t know if it would worth the time invested, but if anyone can solo Grenth’s + Sorrow’s pretty fast, I am willing to join them and kill the bosses (even those in Grenth’s). I think it would be fun to see in some weeks people spamming in Warcamp: “W/R looking for W/Mo for 2 man Grenth’s+ Sorrows!”.

Sorry for bad english, I did my best but it's still a second language for me. I hope that thread entertained you a bit.

that toke awhile to read....
Nice Idea...
You can also get a group of friends and use only the same skills as each boss and fight it out and see the conclusion.....

Nice idea, never thought of it. When i wrote that, I think you couldn't 1 vs 1 yet. But yes, it would help a lot. The only detail we can't reproduce is the 1/2 hex and conditon duration. You may think it changes nothing, but the *skill's recharge time*/*condition or hex lenght* ratio is important: if you are not a boss, Vokur's Crippling Anguish can last forever, killing you yet faster than if its only half the duration.

Thanks !

This article is very impressive, at least i liked it very mutch.

I would also like to find 1 good partner for Sorrows duo but that hard, VERY hard. Anyway my favourite partys are of 2 or 3 members, being all of them or my guildies or people i know that are good.

Let the tournament begin, lets get ready to rumble!!
